When Will [the*] Philippines Learn?

The issue about Artificial Family Planning has been a hot topic once again in the conservative and unreasonably over-religious Philippines. I don't know if it's just me but I so hate our catholic leaders there in Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Please don't get me wrong. I spent my first 12 school years in a catholic school and I definitely know what they are talking about. The thing is, they are so overreacting and they even threaten the law-makers who are pursuing the law about Family Planning to NOT expect any support from ALL catholic Filipinos in the next election. It feels like Spanish era where the friars were abusing the innocence of the budding catholic faith then of the Filipinos. We should learn from Rizal who fought these abuses. We Filipinos are not dumb. We definitely know our faith. Family Planning IS NOT a crime nor WRONG and abortion is NOT Family Planning. What the hell are those priests talking about?

In 1663, Galileo was accused of being an antichrist by the catholic leaders of his time because of his theory that the Earth moves around the Sun which opposed the theory then of the Roman Catholic Church that it is the other way around. In 1992, after 359 years, the Vatican through the late Pope John Paul II finally admitted that Galileo was right. The Vatican now maintains an astronomical observatory at the Pope's summer palace in Castelgandolfo.

Now, what's the point of me saying things about that Galileo affair which embarrassed the Church? Our local catholic leaders should get over their Spanish era-ish pretensions. And please, we have our own minds and we know our bible so stop controlling us catholic Filipinos!

Ang hirap mag-english.

* dinagdag ko na 'tong preposition na 'to, baka pagalitan ako ni Master Carl. Lol.
